On Thursday, April 21, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Early Childhood Education Dr. Katharine Delavan will join forces with Dr. Josh Englehart, Assistant Superintendent of Painesville City Local Schools (PCLS), to present the results of a yearlong collaborative professional development project involving PCLS kindergarten teachers. The presentation will take place at the annual Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children (OAEYC) Ohio Early Childhood Conference in Sandusky.
Funded by a Martha Holden Jennings Grant, the collaborative project involved the development of online professional development modules for the PCLS kindergarten teachers which were designed to support the collaborative inquiry approach to professional development. The grant also funded the procurement of materials necessary to support centers-based learning in the kindergarten classrooms, including listening centers, equipment for dramatic play and sensory centers.
At the OAEYC conference this month, Dr. Delavan and Dr. Englehart will be sharing the outcomes of this innovative approach to professional development.
