Lake Erie College is pleased to welcome Daniel Stewart, nationally renowned coach and motivator, as the keynote speaker for the College’s annual Founders Day Event. Stewart will present his keynote speech, “Setbacks to Comebacks” on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Helen Rockwell Morley Memorial Music Building.
Daniel Stewart has been an equestrian for over thirty-five years and has coached world champion riders all over the world for the past twenty-five. He coached riders on US Equestrian teams at World Championships, World Equestrian Games and Olympics from 2000 to 2007. Combining his knowledge as an equestrian with a degree in physical education, he created an empowering and inspiring clinic series that helps riders develop equally strong minds and bodies. Teaching clinics and seminars to thousands of riders worldwide, he’s considered one of the world’s leading experts on equestrian sport psychology, athletics and performance.
Stewart recently taught a clinic at the Lake Erie College George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center. LEC students, as well as local members of the equestrian community, had a chance to learn from Stewart in a hands-on way. The clinic was an excellent preview of what guests can expect at Founders Day this year.
“It was not like any other clinic I've done before. He challenged us in ways that can be applied to every aspect of life,” said Ketki Hotaling ‘20, Political Science Major and Equine Science Minor. “The exercises he was using in the arena made us engage our brains in a way I've never done in sports before, which is a great thing! I think too often athletes get stuck in their sports and become comfortable with where they are at. Daniel pushed us outside our comfort zone- and I loved it.”
In his keynote presentations across the country, Stewart speaks about confidence, courage and camaraderie. He is the author of three books, “Ride Right,” “Pressure Proof Your Riding” and “Fit & Focused in 52: The Rider’s Weekly Mind-And-Body Training Companion.” His books teach about tools that improve focus, confidence, optimism and willpower by decreasing doubt, distractions and more. His inspirational presentation for Founders Day will focus on overcoming emotional challenges in all parts of our lives including sports, education, careers, and relationships.
Founders Day is an annual celebration at Lake Erie College where students, faculty, staff and friends gather to recognize the institution’s deep rooted traditions and its founders.
