IHSA hunt seat team takes Team Championship titles at home

Lake Erie College’s IHSA hunt seat team spent Halloween weekend hosting the College’s fall home IHSA hunt seat show, ultimately leading the region (Zone 6, Region 1).

Over two days of competition, the team swept the region and took the Team Championship title both days. “We are now leading the region by seventeen points!” said Cami Blanchard, coordinator of equine studies recruitment. “The competition is fierce and there is still much work to be done as many highly respectable teams are in our region.”

Lake Erie’s IHSA hunt seat team acquired quite a few noteworthy individual accomplishments over the weekend. For starters, Heather Taylor and Logan Rodenbaugh both pointed up out of their divisions. Heather pointed out of advanced walk, trot, canter and Logan pointed out of novice fences. These riders are now qualified for regionals as well as Tiphani Beckett who pointed up at the last horse show. As if that wasn’t enough, Emily Bluedorn earned high point rider on Saturday with teammate Ketki Hotaling coming in as the reserve high point rider. On Sunday Maddie Pilz took the high point title.

The following riders won their classes in the division listed:

Maddie Pilz - open flat
Sammy Rothman - open fences
Logan Rodenbaugh - intermediate flat
Anna Laino - intermediate fences
Sophie Sahutske - intermediate fences
Emily Bluedorn - novice flat
Ketki Hotaling - novice flat
Emily bluedorn - novice fences
Ketki Hotaling - novice fences
Heather Taylor- advanced walk, trot, canter
Maddy Hollingsworth – walk, trot

Maddie Pilz - open fences
Lissy Naber - intermediate fences
Ketki Hotaling - novice flat

In addition to their accomplishments, the team enjoyed a special appearance from an unexpected guest – The Headless Horseman! – who stopped by in an attempt to scare away the competition. Instead, it seemed someone sent out a distress signal because shortly afterward Batman arrived on the scene to save the day!

Overall it was a beautiful weekend for LEC’s hard-working IHSA hunt seat team and their coach, Mary Pardee. Congratulations to all!
