LEC Sport Management and Sport Studies senior seminar students will present “Kick It for Kids,” a charity kickball tournament to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Ohio, on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Riverside High School’s baseball and softball fields.
One of the event’s masterminds, Mitch Tilley ’18, said, “Over the past four years we, the graduating seniors in the Sport Management/Sport Studies program, have studied all the different aspects that go into planning, managing and executing sporting events and sports business. This event gives us the opportunity to take what we have learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world, while at the same time giving back to the community that has given so much to us.”
An accompanying food drive contest will benefit Food Force of Painesville, a program that supplies emergency food to residents in need. One team who brings the most non-perishable food items that day will receive a prize.
Dr. Amanda Curtis, assistant professor of sport management, called the charity tournament a “win-win.”
“I wanted to be able to give the students some practical experience creating, organizing and running a sport event,” Dr. Curtis said. “It was entirely their choice on the type of event and charities to benefit.”
The games will begin at 11:00 a.m. Participants may begin checking in at 10:30 a.m.
Teams may register seven to ten members and must pay $5 per team member. Complete team payment is due at the time of registration. Spectators may attend at no charge.
