Lake Erie College Summer Institute
The Lake Erie College Summer Institute (LECSI) provides opportunities for regional teachers to earn professional development (PD) credit through Lake Erie College’s PD program. LECSI focuses on enhancing K-12 science education through hands-on activities outside of the classroom. Teachers participating in LECSI courses will be exposed to a variety of field experiences and technologies to help teachers develop comfort with incorporating technology into their classrooms while improving environmental awareness and literacy in the community. All courses are designed to align with appropriate Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Science Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
While enrolled in LECSI courses, teachers will have the opportunity to work not only with LEC faculty in both the School of Natural Science and Mathematics and the School of Education and Professional Studies, but experts from professional partners in the region, including The Nature Conservancy and the Holden Arboretum. Previous courses focused on invertebrate identification, fish identification, invasive species, plant surveys and extended vernal pool studies. Information on future offerings can be found here.
