2nd Annual SAAC TriathlonOn Thursday, May 3, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host the 2nd annual Lake Erie Triathlon. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will put competing students, faculty and staff members through a rigorous course including laps in the Ritchie Gymnasium swimming pool, a biking route across campus and a running path within campus.
The triathlon is the final event in this year's Student-Athlete Week and will end within a celebratory awards ceremony directly following the competition. The Lake Erie Triathlon is SAAC's effort to bring the campus together for a fun activity that includes faculty, staff and students in an informal, relaxed setting.
Last year's event saw 30 participants, with representation of at least one member from the students, faculty and staff, work hard and sweat their way to the finish. Then freshman Misty Porter won the women's competition and current junior David Gobrogge won the men's competition.
This year, the group is looking to add a catered cookout and a better organized awards ceremony. The course itself may also change to include more challenging obstacles, such as the hills on campus, which had to be avoided last year due to flooding.
SAAC is hopes to have at least one participant from the students, faculty and staff exceed last year's total participation and create a more festive scene for the triathlon. The entry fee is $5 per student and $10 per faculty/staff member; each entrant will receive a t-shirt. For more information, please contact Ricky Volante at RVolante@lec.edu.
