LEC to Celebrate Opening of the New American Legion Post on Campus(Painesville, Ohio) - This Veteran's Day on November 11 at Noon, Lake Erie College and The American Legion are celebrating the first post of its kind in Ohio. The post located on the College campus will be made primarily of the College's veteran students and staff. The College has agreed to allow the post to meet on campus. The ceremony will be held in the Louise Price Social Parlor in College Hall. A tour of the VETS area will be followed by a light lunch.
The second of the two "firsts" is that of naming of the post. This post will be the first in Ohio to be named after a fallen service member from the Iraq War, L.Cpl. Andrew "Andy" Nowacki. The official name of the post will be "Andy Nowacki-Lake Erie College Post 807." His name will be cemented and remembered as long as the post remains. The group of veterans and Legionaires intend to give his name the honor it deserves.
The Department of Ohio has not embarked on such an experiment before. This experiment is intended to form and strengthen partnerships with the College and other campus veteran's service organizations. It is also intended to strengthen membership among the Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom war eras and dispel any stereotypes that The American Legion isn't understanding of the younger veteran's needs.
This post will set the standards for all other college campus's that have a strong veteran presence to follow, and will be looked upon as the torch bearers leading the way into a rejuvenated and revitalized Department of Ohio American Legion.
The Lake Erie College post is the first post to be opened in Ohio since 2010 and The American Legion. For more information please contact Internal Affairs Director Jason Graven at email@example.com or 740-362-7478.
