Advanced Italian Class to Perform Play by Famous PlaywrightThe IT 331 Advanced Italian class at Lake Erie College will perform "La Locandiera" ("The Lady Owner of the Inn" by the famous Italian playwright Carlo Goldini on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coe Conference Room in the Arthur S. Holden Center. The play, directed by Associate Professor of Italian and French Dr. Paolo Basile, represents her own creative version.
"La Lacondiera" is a story is focused on the circumstances surrounding Mirandolina, called Lina, who runs a nightclub called "Vivaldi" in Venice (inherited by her father) along with the help of her waiter, Fabrizio. Lina is constantly courted by every man who enters the nightclub, especially by the Marquis Giacomo di Forlipopoli, who goes by the name "Il Marchese," because his noble title is that all that remains to him. Marquis is a "seven plum tree" aristocrat after he lost his fortune in the stock market. The Marquis, exercising his exclusive rights of honor and his centuries-old hereditary title, is convinced that this fortune is enough to win the desirable Lina.
