Lake Erie College is pleased to announce a new program leading to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement in the State of Ohio.

Curriculum Designed For Busy Teachers

Start meeting the challenges of teaching students whose first language is not English. Earn your endorsement as an undergraduate student, specialize your master’s degree, or add the credential to an existing Ohio license. After six rigorous courses, you can thrive in today’s multicultural classrooms and comply with all Ohio regulations pertaining to English Language Learners.

Flexible Field Hours

In this comprehensive accredited program, all required 100 field hours are spread throughout your coursework and final, semester-long practicum. Complete field hours in your own classroom, within your own building, or at a local placement arranged for you. At the graduate level, all courses are offered online.

Requirements for the Endorsement

18 Semester Credits including:

  • EML 401 Sociocultural Awareness in the classroom (3 SH)

  • EML 402 Second Language Acquisition and Development (3 SH)

  • EML 403 Methods and Materials for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (3 SH)

  • EML 404 Linguistics (3 SH)

  • EML 405 Assessment and Evaluation (3 SH)

  • EML 412 TESOL Practicum and Seminar (3 SH)

The TESOL Endorsement is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and can be offered in a hybrid format for a cohort of 10 or more students. The program consists of 18 credits hours taken through 6 courses, including a semester-long practicum that can be completed in your own classroom, within your own building or through a placement we arrange for you to work with English as a Second Language (ESL) students in the local area.

The State of Ohio requires 100 field hours. In our TESOL Endorsement program, these hours are spread throughout the coursework and the final practicum. A passing score of 220 or higher on OAE 021 English to Speakers of Other Languages exam is required for the endorsement.

Tuition is $499/semester hour. Total for 6 courses is $8,982.

A 10% tuition discount is available to teachers in all districts in Ashtabula County, Geauga County, and Lake County.

A 10% tuition discount is available to all Lake Erie College Alumni.

With the 10% discount, the cost of the endorsement program is $8,082, a savings of $900
