Give a Damn| Event

Give a Damn is a week dedicated to social justice with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Inspired by the historical photo of LEC students in the 1960's protesting the Vietnam War, the week will reflect LEC’s long tradition of activism and speaking up about the current issues that impact society today.

Monday

11:00 a.m. - Penny Wars Begin! - Holden Center Did you vote in last week’s social media poll? Be sure to bring your spare change to campus all week to donate to our two winning local charities! Donation table will be outside of Metz all week long! 7:00 p.m. - LEC Alumni Advocate Panel - Lincoln Library Hear from some of our own alumni as they share their experiences as an LEC student, including stories about what motivated and inspired them to pursue their goals and passions!

Tuesday

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Letter Writing Campaign - Holden Center What do you give a damn about? Using the addresses provided, write a letter to your local representatives and elected officials to voice your thoughts and opinions!

7:30 p.m. - Brian Malow: The Science Comedian - C.K. Rickel Theatre (in Royce) Brian Malow returns to LEC! Catch his FREE live comedy performance. Discover more here.

Wednesday

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Letter Writing Campaign - Holden Center What do you give a damn about? Using the addresses provided, write a letter to your local representatives and elected officials to voice your thoughts and opinions!

11:00 a.m. - Recreating "Give a Damn" Sign - Garfield Center C11 Join the LEC community and fellow students in recreating the Give a Damn painted sign as seen in the historical photo from the 1960's when LEC students were protesting the Vietnam War. This will be used on Friday to recreate the photo itself.

3:30 p.m. - Community Activators Panel (HU 110 Students Only) - Virtual Join us for this engaging panel featuring three leaders in the community.

  • Dr. Jessie Baginski, President/CEO of Leadership Lake County

  • Betty Jacobs, Founder and Executive Director of LGBTQ+ Allies Lake County

Thursday

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - CauseFest - Holden Center Interested in learning about local charities and non-profits? Want to learn how you can give back to your community? Stop by the CauseFest by the Holden Stage to meet with representatives from local organizations!

Friday

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Letter Writing Campaign - Holden Center What do you give a damn about? Using the addresses provided, write a letter to your local representatives and elected officials to voice your thoughts and opinions!

12:00 p.m. - Recreating "Give a Damn" Photo - Front of College Hall Have you seen the historic postcard featuring our LEC alumni? Join us as we recreate this dynamic moment in LEC history!

Saturday

11:00 a.m. - Student Support Day at LEC Women's Soccer Game - Jack Britt Stadium Wear purple to support our players as they raise awareness for domestic violence.

3:00 p.m. - Miracle Minute - Jack Britt Stadium - During Storm Football We will be collecting any spare change and donations between the 1st and 2nd quarter of the LEC Storm vs. Kentucky Wesleyan football game. At the end of the quarter there will be a countdown to collect as many donations as possible for the Make a Wish Foundation.

1:00 p.m. - Trunk or Treat - Jack Britt Stadium Join us for some fall fun at Jack Britt Stadium!
