Lake Erie College names Peter Gerhart as interim president

The executive committee of the Lake Erie College board of directors has named Peter Gerhart, former dean of Case Western Reserve University School of Law, as interim president. Gerhart will begin his term on August 1, 2015 and follows President Michael Victor who is leaving after nine years of service.

Gerhart was dean of the Case Western Reserve School of Law for ten years and holds degrees from Northwestern University and Columbia University School of Law.  In addition to teaching international law and legal theory at Case Western’s law school, where he is currently a professor, Gerhart has taught several undergraduate SAGES seminars at Case and a course in Global Economic Issues in the Doctor of Management program at Case.  Gerhart has published numerous articles in a wide variety of topics and two books on legal theory.  He has also taught at the Ohio State University, Georgetown Law School and the University of Texas School of Law.

“Mr. Gerhart brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in higher education and will serve the College well in the next several months,” said Dana Dennis, chairman of the College board of directors. “He will work with our strong current administration, as our search committee looks for the next dynamic leader for Lake Erie College. We will be conducting a national search for the next president of Lake Erie College in the fall.” Dennis also said that a presidential search committee has been formed and planning is well underway.

This opportunity will allow Dean Gerhart to use his skills in interpersonal communication and institutional development to keep Lake Erie College moving forward as it prepares to attract outstanding new leadership.  “I am thrilled to be able to spend this time with the men and women of Lake Erie College as we celebrate the College’s accomplishments under President Victor and prepare for a vibrant future under new leadership.   No human endeavor is more important than education, and few are as passionate about quality education as the people of the Lake Erie College community,” said Gerhart.
