Physician Assistant Week taking place October 6-12

Academics,

To honor the country’s physician assistant professionals, National Physician Assistant (PA) Week is taking place October 6-12, 2016. The students, faculty and staff of the PA program at Lake Erie College invite one and all to help them celebrate their profession and its contributions to our nation’s health.

Over the past year, the PA program at Lake Erie College has racked up an impressive list of achievements, most recently earning a 100% retention rate and a 100% pass rate on the national board exam between the 24 inaugural members of the Class of 2016. In addition, the PA program won the Ohio Regional Cleveland Clinic Challenge Bowl this past year and ranked as quarterfinalists in the national American Academy of Physician Assistants Challenge Bowl.

The Physician Assistant Student Society at LEC will be holding events on campus the week of October 10-14, as illustrated in the embedded graphic. The money raised from the fundraisers during the week will be used to help the students attend the National PA Conference and also will be donated in portion to charity. Specifically, the funds will help to benefit the Geauga Faith Rescue Mission, a non-profit organization working to provide shelter and services for homeless populations in Geauga County. For more information on these events, contact Angela Parente, clinical coordinator and assistant professor, at aparente@lec.edu.

As part of their celebrations, the members of the PA program would like to express gratitude toward the clinical educators who serve as preceptors and who share their exemplary clinical skills and knowledge with our students. Below are quotes from some of our preceptors:

I have to admit I been very pleased and impressed with all the LEC PA students that I have precepted thus far over the last 13 months. And I’m very proud of the accomplishments from our Inaugural Class of 2016. I feel quite confident the graduates of LECs program will make excellent professional PAs in the future, and will be worthy and valuable assets to any organization that employs them. Good luck and keep up the great work.

"The Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

This quote is hanging up in my office and each and every day I look at it before I begin my work day. It reminds me of how far I have come in my professional journey and how my path can be a stepping stone for others as well.

I know the struggles that students face day in and day out while going through the rigorous challenges of the PA profession. I’ve lived through the tears and triumphs. I am beyond grateful to have been able to continue to share my knowledge with others and help advance student’s careers.

PA week is a time to celebrate and reflect on the profession that we have all chosen to pursue. Congrats to all of those who have succeeded in their professional journey and became PA’s and good luck to all of those that are continuing to follow their own paths and I look forward to hearing more success stories from all of those at LEC!!!
