Rabbit Run Theater, in Madison, Ohio, and Lake Erie College close the 2016-17 Studio Series: Extraordinary Circumstances season with David Auburn’s compelling drama “Proof.”
Winner of three Tony Awards, including Best Play, “Proof” opens Friday, Mar. 31, and runs through Sunday, Apr. 9.
On the eve of her 25th birthday, Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Unforeseen events complicate matters, bringing the arrival of an estranged sister as well as a former student. Volatile emotions stir in Catherine, and she wonders how much of her father’s genius or madness has she inherited.
Cast members include Greg Gnau as Robert and Lake Erie College theatre minor Jessi Moore as his daughter, Catherine. Catherine’s sister Claire is portrayed by Elizabeth Allard and the graduate student Hal is played by Lance Gentile.
“Proof” is directed by Dr. Jerry C. Jaffe, associate professor of theatre at Lake Erie College.
“‘Proof’ is in the tradition of great American dramas like ‘Death of a Salesman,’’ says Jaffe. “Both plays are about family, and their struggles between parents and children, but both plays are also about so much more as they embody the American dream and the American spirit."
“Proof” runs Mar. 31, Apr. 1, 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Apr. 2 and 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the C.K. Rickel Theatre in Royce Hall for the Fine and Performing Arts off of Gillett St. on the Lake Erie College campus, 391 W. Washington St., Painesville, OH.
Tickets for all performances are available on line at www.rabbitrunonline.org or at the door. Tickets are $15/adult and $13/senior. All students are admitted free of charge as well as Lake Erie College faculty and staff. All seats are general seating. Parking is free.
A pre-show event is available on Friday, Apr. 7, at the Steele Mansion in Painesville. Patrons may enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and a self-guided tour through the mansion. The Steele Mansion is located at 348 Mentor Ave., across from Lake Erie College. Tickets for the Steele Mansion pre-show event are $27 for adults and $25 for seniors (includes show ticket). Cash bar is available; doors open at 5 p.m. Reservations are recommended and may be made at rabbitrunonline.org.
