Rabbit Run Theater, in Madison, Ohio, and Lake Erie College open the second production of the 2016-17 Studio Series: Extraordinary Circumstances season with the romantic comedy “Almost, Maine.”
Written by John Cariani and winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, “Almost, Maine” opens Friday, Nov. 11 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 20.
On a cold winter’s night, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. With the northern lights and a star-filled sky as a backdrop, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often humorous ways. Knees are bruised and hearts are broken with the eventual healing of both, almost.
The production is composed of eleven vignettes, each no more than ten to fifteen minutes long, some even shorter. The unique element in “Almost, Maine” is all of the vignettes take place at nine o’clock on a particular Friday evening in the middle of winter.
“Almost, Maine” is directed by Dr. Jerry C. Jaffe, associate professor of theatre at Lake Erie College.
“‘Almost, Maine’ is a simple and sweet romantic comedy all taking place in and around a small Maine town called Almost with a beautiful night sky,” says Jaffe. “I love the humor, the simplicity, and the hint of magic that permeates every scene. It reminds me in a whimsical way of Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream.”
“This production has a great cast, comprised of Lake Erie College students, alumnae, as well some great actors from the community. The play has 20 different characters and features a lot of double and triple casting, which adds to the fun of the show.”
“Almost, Maine” runs Nov. 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 13 and 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the C.K. Rickel Theatre in Royce Hall for the Fine and Performing Arts off of Gillett St. on the Lake Erie College campus, 391 W. Washington St., Painesville, OH.
