Residence Director - Coordinator of Residence Life & Housing

REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDENT LIFE & HOUSING

STATUS: PART-TIME, 12-MONTH

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the part-time position of residence director – coordinator of residence life & housing. As a member of the Student Life staff, the residence director (RD) is responsible for the general welfare of all students, encouragement to maximize their intellectual growth and personal development. The RD is expected to positively influence, contribute to, and improve the quality of life of the residential student through programming, enforcing College policies and procedures, and by forming personal relationships with each student in his/her residential community. This is a live-in position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Residence Director Responsibilities:
  • Manages a residential living community ranging from 120-250 residents varying from residence hall living to apartment living.

  • Supervises and assess 3-5 paraprofessional Resident Assistant staff members.

  • Participates in 24 hour On Call responsibilities along with fellow RDs (including break periods).

  • Administrates weekly RA staff meetings, monthly RA one on one meetings and attend weekly RD meetings.

  • Attends weekly staff meetings and weekly one on ones with the director. Submit weekly and on-call reports to the director.

  • Assists in the training, selection, and evaluation of RA staff.

  • Serves as the liaison between the residential students and the assistant director of student life & housing.

  • Facilitates resident check-in and check-out process.

  • Assists in supervision of the summer resident assistant staff.

  • Assists with the check in and check out process of summer residents and outside groups/summer campus that are using the residential facilities.

  • Supervises summer student worker staff and lead these individuals in the completion of special projects, including but not limited to assessment of rooms and common spaces in the residence halls and apartments, replacement and installation of apartment amenities, and moving furniture.

  • Provides crisis intervention when needed and make appropriate referrals.

  • Intercedes regarding policy violations and make appropriate referrals.

  • Provides sensitive, responsive, and well informed guidance to residents regarding individual and collective concerns.

  • Be visible and accessible to residents within your community.

  • Facilitates the Six Week Programming & Jump Start Storm Challenges and plan recognition event.

  • Oversees and implement the Resident Assistant Merit Based System.

  • Represents the Student Experience Suite at College functions and events.

  • Other duties as assigned by the assistant director(s) of student life, director of student life and/or executive director of student affairs and title IX coordinator.

Coordinator Residence Life & Housing Responsibilities:
  • Maintains 15-20 office hours per week within the Student Experience Suite.

  • Streamlines facility and budgetary requests for programs and training.

  • Assists ADSLH with the planning of RA training (fall and winter).

  • Coordinates outside training opportunities throughout the year for the staff.

  • Serves as after hours on call for maintenance emergencies and report them to maintenance staff directly.

  • Checks housing maintenance email inbox, submits maintenance requests daily, and manages the residential maintenance database.

  • Manages keys and complete key audits as needed for all residential areas.

  • Coordinates monthly health and safety inspections and necessary follow ups.

  • Coordinates break housing, including communication to/with students and break requests.

  • Coordinates and complete inspections with the local Fire Marshall as needed.

  • Coordinates and communicate with census officials as needed.

  • Assists with Housing Lottery, room selection and new student housing placement/roommate matching.

  • Enters and maintains housing data in Jenzabar EX system.

  • Maintains residential student housing files and roster information.

  • Assists with the coordination of the yearly move-in, move-out process.

  • Updates housing forms and information.

  • Other duties as assigned by the assistant director(s) of student life, director of student life and/or executive director of student affairs and title IX coordinator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required (currently enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program preferred).

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

  • Strong communication, computer and organizational skills; solution oriented.

  • Conflict mediation knowledge.

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate and actively participate in developmental student programming.

  • Ability to work within a residence life team.

  • Able to work with a diverse student population.

  • Sound administrative and supervisory skills.

  • Sense of humor.

  • Due to the nature of the position, flexibility to at times work unpredictable work weeks, including nights and weekends, and some weeks requiring more than the usual 15-20hrs.
