Resident Director Coordinator for Housing Operations
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF RESIDENCE LIFE & HOUSING (DRLH) STATUS: PART-TIME, EXEMPT, 12 MONTH
Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the part-time position of Resident Director Coordinator for Housing Operations. The Resident Director (RD) is a part-time live-in position that reports directly to the Director of Residence Life & Housing (DRLH). As a member of the Student Affairs staff, the RD is responsible for the general welfare of all students by achieving program excellence and innovation, strengthening campus culture, and optimizing resources. The RD staff are expected to positively influence, contribute to, and improve the quality of life of the student population through programming, enforcing college policies and procedures, and forming personal relationships with each student in their residential community. This is a live-in position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Residence director responsibilities:
Manages a residential living community, ranging from 120 to 250 residents, varying from traditional living to apartment living.
Supervises and assesses 3-5 Resident Assistant staff members.
Participates in a 24-hour On-Call rotation with fellow RD staff (including break periods) and submits daily on-call reports to the DRLH.
Facilitates weekly RA staff meetings and bi-weekly RA 1:1 meetings, submit meeting notes/reports.
Attends weekly RD staff meetings and weekly 1:1 meetings with the DRLH.
Oversees daily RA On-Call duty logs and Time Off Requests.
Serves as the liaison between the residential students and the DRLH.
Assists in the training, selection, and evaluation of the RA staff.
Plans and facilitates RA training sessions (Fall and Winter).
Maintains RA programming database to ensure that requirements are met/assist RAs with planning and creating program initiatives.
Tracks RA bulletin board changes and themes.
Provides crisis intervention when needed, assist students with personal and emotional concerns, and make appropriate referrals.
Intercedes regarding policy violations and make appropriate referrals.
Provides sensitive, responsive, and well-informed guidance to residents regarding individual and collective concerns.
Facilitates roommate mediations and room re-assignments.
Oversees residential incident reports and follow-up meetings.
Serves as the communications point person for all judicial hearings, correspondence, and incidents for residents under your purview.
Adjudicates judicial conduct meetings and implement appropriate sanctions for students.
Assists in data collection and analysis for institutional, state, and federal record keeping, i.e. Clery Act Compliance.
Be visible and accessible as a resource to residents within your community.
Represents the Student Experience Suite at College functions and events.
Updates and maintains Billing Spreadsheet relevant to student restitution and fees.
Facilitates resident check-in and check-out process.
Assist with the check-in and check-out process from residential buildings including end-of-year closing, summer housing transition, and non-LEC affiliated groups/summer camps.
Supervises the summer RA and student worker staff and lead these individuals in completing special projects, including but not limited to an assessment of rooms and common spaces in the residence halls and apartments, replacement, and installation of apartment amenities, and moving furniture.
Other duties as assigned by the DRLH within the scope of the position.
Coordinator for housing operations responsibilities:
Maintains weekly office hours within the Student Experience Suite (15-20 hours per week).
Maintains the housing maintenance email and ticket submission system.
Submits maintenance requests promptly and conduct efficient follow-up regarding maintenance concerns.
Maintain correspondence with students regarding maintenance concerns and actions needed for resolution.
Manages the residential maintenance database and tracks all maintenance requests/resolutions.
Manages keys and conduct key audits each academic semester.
Maintains a count of all College furniture within the residential buildings and conduct audits as needed.
Coordinates the completion of Room Condition Reports and maintain follow-up accordingly.
Coordinates monthly Health and Safety Inspections facilitated by the RA staff and conducts necessary follow up.
Coordinates break housing, including communication with students regarding break requests.
Coordinate and complete inspections with the local Fire Marshall as needed.
Coordinate and communicate with census officials as needed.
Assist with housing selection and placement.
Conducts roommate matching as needed.
Tracks and maintains housing-related data in Jenzabar EX system and housing spreadsheets.
Tracks and maintains data related to waitlists, room re-assignments, keys, and RCRs.
Maintains residential student housing files and roster information.
Assist with the coordination of yearly move-in and move-out processes.
Update housing information and forms as needed.
Although the position requires approximately 20 hours per week, the nature of the role at times necessitates unpredictable work weeks, including nights and weekends, and some weeks require more than 20 hours.
Flex time is available during the academic year as schedules allow.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required (currently enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program preferred).
Valid driver’s license.
Valid background check.
Strong communication, computer, and organizational skills.
Demonstrates initiative and is solution oriented.
Conflict mediation knowledge.
Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate, and actively participate.
Engages in collaborative partnership with the Student Affairs team and other College stakeholders.
Able and excited to work with a student population with varying needs, abilities, and identities.
Sound administrative and supervisory skills.
