LEC and Society for Human Resource Management Host “CONNECT”

The Lake Erie College School of Business is partnering with the Lake/Geauga Area chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to host CONNECT, an event on campus for LEC students. CONNECT will be an evening of information exchange, networking, and fun activities centered around introducing LEC students to the field of Human Resources Management. Students from all majors are welcome to attend on March 31, 2022 at 6 p.m. in Coe Conference Room on the third floor of the Arthur S. Holden Center.

First on the schedule for the evening is a panel presentation from five local HR professionals. The Panelists will include Patty Schenker PHR, SHRM-CP, Human Resources Manager, Solon Manufacturing Company in Chardon; Leslie Rubino PHR, SHRM-CP, Human Resources Manager, Lubrizol in Wickliffe; Kathy Lucha PHR, SHRM-CP, Manager of Employee Relations, HR Policies and Compliance at Austin Powder Company; Rose Ann Kay SPHR, GPHR, SHRM-SCP, Principle/Human Resource Consultant at Humanics, LLC; Morgan Briggs, Human Resources Analyst at Signature Health, Inc.; and Austin Winters, Human Resources Coordinator, D&S Automotive Collision and Restyling. Moderating the event will be LEC’s Marie Francosky,Ph.D., Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior. Students will learn about what HR does within a business’ workplace, how professionals in the field help employees be successful in their jobs, and what kinds of skills, training, and experience it takes to be an HR professional.

“This HR event is an exciting opportunity for our LEC students. They will get a chance to network with leaders in the HR field from various businesses in the Lake and Geauga County area,” said Marie Francosky, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior. “These students will learn about internship and scholarship opportunities and what they need to know to transition successfully from college students to emerging professionals in their chosen fields.”

CONNECT will be the first of many joint events with the School of Business and the LGA SHRM. The goal is to help emerging professionals in all fields prepare to be successful in their future careers. All students will discover that everyone who plans on working at a job will benefit from “CONNECTING” with people in the field of HR and from knowing what Human Resources can do for them in their jobs.

After the panel presentation, students will also have an opportunity to chat with the individual professionals, ask questions, hear about internship opportunities, and find out what being in the workforce is really like. The event will include a raffle for a student membership with LGA SHRM, which will give them access to jobs, business articles, internship opportunities and even scholarships.

Students should check with their faculty members to see if attendance at this event will earn credit in their classes. Light refreshments will also be provided. For more information, contact Dr. Marie Francosky at mfrancosky@lec.edu.
