After working for 22 years as a high school English teacher, Dr. Beth Walsh-Moorman joined Lake Erie College’s School of Education as an assistant professor of literacy in 2018. Her research interests include digital literacies, with a strong focus on digital source evaluation. Kate Hovick is a 2020 M.Ed. Literacy graduate whose most recent teaching experience was 4th grade at Our Shepherd Lutheran in Painesville OH. Beth and Kate will share their work together, which will be featured in an upcoming issue of The Reading Teacher, focusing on teaching older elementary students how to determine a source’s authority when conducting online research. While our study is focused on upper elementary students, we will introduce lateral reading, a reading strategy that will support students of any age engaging in online research.
