Upcoming Equine Studies Events

As Fall Semester kicks off, here are the latest events from the School of Equine Studies.

September

After more than a year of canceled Intercollegiate horse showing due to COVID, the LEC Storm Riders are over the moon to hit the road to their first shows for the fall semester! The IHSA Western team heads out first, traveling to Findlay, Ohio to meet their arch-rivals the University of Findlay Oilers on that team’s home turf. The Hunt Seat team kicks off their season the following weekend at Stonegate. In between these IHSA shows, the School of Equine Studies is hosting a variety of schooling shows and clinics, beginning with a Dressage Schooling Show on Saturday, September 18. All profits of that show will benefit the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) team. Our Hunter/Jumper riders will enjoy a Fix-My-Ride clinic with program supporter Angela Moore on Sunday, September 19.

October

This is a huge month at the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center starting with the School of Equine Studies’ third annual Equine Experience Day on Friday, October 1 through Saturday, October 2. This is an all-hands-on-deck event for EQ. The Hunt Seat team heads to the University of Findlay’s arena on October 16-17, meeting their arch-rivals away from home. This is a rivalry that dates back over twenty years ago. Go Storm Riders! The IDA team heads to their first show of the season at Miami University, ready to defend their 2019 Region D Championship title. The Western Storm Riders head back to UF on October 30 for another crack at the Oilers’ goliath-sized Western team. Saturday and Sunday, October 23-24 will be the first Intercollegiate Home Show hosted at the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center since February 2020 before COVID struck. Spectators to this show are ALWAYS encouraged to cheer on our Storm Riders as they defend their home arena! On Saturday and Sunday, October 30-31, LEC is proud to host Olympic Dressage Gold Medalist, Lendon Gray for her Dressage4Kids clinic open to riders from across NE Ohio. Four LEC riders earned a spot on that roster and will get an opportunity to learn from one of the best in business.

  • IHSA Hunt Seat @ University of Findlay

    Saturday and Sunday, October 16-17: 8 am to 5 pm both days The IHSA Hunt Seat team heads to Findlay, OH to spill some oil at U. Findlay’s home arena. These two teams have a rivalry that dates back over 20 years!

  • IDA @ Miami University

    Saturday and Sunday, October 16-17: 8 am to 4 pm both days The Storm Riders in white head to Miami University for their first Intercollegiate show since February 2020. The IDA is in the hunt for the 2021 Region D Championship title this year as a follow-up to their 2019 title!

  • IHSA Hunt Seat @ Home

    Saturday and Sunday, October 23-24: 8 am to 4 pm both days The Hunt Seat teams hosts their first home show since February 2020 before COVID stole their post-season opportunity. Come out to the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center to cheer on our Storm Riders as they defend their home turf!

  • IHSA Western @ University of Findlay

    Saturday, October 30: 8 am to 4 pm The Western Storm Riders head back to Findlay, OH for another go round at their rival Oiler’s home arena!

  • Dressage4Kids Clinic

    Saturday and Sunday, October 30-31: 9 am to 4 pm both days The LEC School of Equine Studies is proud to welcome US Olympic Dressage Gold Medalist, Lendon Gray to the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center. This clinic is open to young dressage riders from across NE Ohio.

November

The IDA team travels to Otterbein to compete in a two-day show on November 6-7. The following weekend, LEC EQ is proud to host the United States Hunter Jumper Association Emerging Athletes Program National Training Session and Horsemanship Quiz Challenge. From November 11-14, riders from across the country will come to the George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center to learn from US Olympic Showjumping Gold Medalist, Peter Wylde. Our IHSA Western Team hosts their double-header home show on Saturday, November 20. Spectators are always welcome at home events!
