College mourns the passing of former dean and professor, Dr. Richard Bonde

Academics,

The Lake Erie College community is sad to announce the death of Dr. Richard Bonde on March 19. Dr. Bonde was a dedicated member of the College’s education faculty from 1998 to 2012, and he also served as chair/dean of the department of education from 2005 to 2010. While at LEC, he taught a variety of education courses and also implemented the College’s Special Education program and Adolescent Young Adult secondary program.

At the time of his passing, he was the mayor of the City of Willowick. He previously served as principal of St. Joseph High School, VASJ, Chardon High School, Kirtland High School and
Lakeside High School (Ashtabula), and he was a teacher at Willowick Middle School.

Dr. Bonde is survived by five sons and five grandchildren. His son, Brett, is a 2011 alumnus of Lake Erie College. Dr. Bonde was an excellent educator, leader, public servant, father and grandfather. We extend our sympathies to his family during this difficult time.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 22, from 12 noon until 6:45 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine Street, Willowick. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 7 p.m. at the church.
