Coordinator of Student Engagement & Retention Job

REPORTS TO: DEAN OF STUDENTS AND TITLE IX COORDINATOR STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED, TEMPORARY POSITION

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the part-time position of residence director – coordinator of student engagement & programming. Under the direction of the Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator, and in collaboration with the division of Student Affairs, the coordinator will be responsible for campus-wide engagement initiatives both inside and outside of the classroom. The coordinator will be expected to follow the campus-wide programming model (POP Model for Student Engagement) and work with other College personnel to maintain other traditions such as Field Day, Mountain Day, and the programmatic functions of Lake Erie College’s New Student Orientation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a liaison between personnel in academic affairs and student life to promote unity, and collaboration, and explore synergies between the two areas.

  • Serves as liaison for Student Experience Suite and P2E and works with campus stakeholders to develop, define and measure the outcomes for academic co-curricular programs and assists in the production of progress reports.

  • Oversees the POP Model for Student Engagement and manages the student activities schedule of events.

  • Develops programs serving specific population of students including, but not limited to, commuter students, international students and graduate students.

  • Plans and implements campus wide programs, including but not limited to Field Day, Student Life Office theme weeks, Mountain Day and Homecoming.

  • Provides guidance and leadership to all student organizations including, but not limited to, Student Government Association, Laurel Society and Campus Activities Board.

  • Maintains and cultivates a joint partnership with City of Painesville, including Downtown Painesville Organization, Department of Recreation and Painesville City Schools.

  • Monitors the Student Experience Suite social media sites.

  • Facilitates marketing and promotion of campus wide events.

  • Helps facilitates new student orientation sessions for summer, fall and spring.

  • Communicates with incoming students to ensure necessary paperwork is turned in.

  • Works with Public Relations for design of New Student Orientation Materials.

  • Works with Admissions on lists of incoming and perspective students.

  • Works with Registrar and Advising on options for remote orientation and advising needs for students.

  • Helps monitor the Student Life Office social media sites.

  • Develops and monitors Student Life budget areas, including Student Orientation Budget.

  • Assists the Dean of Students in providing vision, leadership and strategic direction of student engagement including: student organizations, student activities, co-curricular engagement.

  • Works collaboratively with campus departments on issues, planning and projects.

  • Represents the College on necessary community coalitions and consortiums.

  • Supervise graduate level students and student workers.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students & Title IX Coordinator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

  • Strong communication, computer and organizational skills; solution oriented.

  • Conflict mediation knowledge.

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate and actively participate in developmental student programming.

  • Ability to work within a residence life team.

  • Able to work with a diverse student population.

  • Sound administrative and supervisory skills.

  • Sense of humor.

  • Due to the nature of the position, flexibility to at times work unpredictable work weeks, including nights and weekends, and some weeks requiring more than the usual 15-20hrs.
