Director of Physical Plant

REPORTS TO: VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of Director of Physical Plant. This is a hands-on position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages all functions, staff and contractors related to the operation and maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds of Lake Erie College’s main campus and Equestrian Center.

  • Manages expenditures to stay within budgets and improve efficiencies.

  • Purchases materials and supplies for the operation and maintenance of facilities.

  • Assists the vice president for administration and financial with facility planning.

  • Manages minor construction/renovation projects.

  • Responsible for the technical aspects of planning and new facilities and/or renovation to existing facilities.

  • Attends the Building & Grounds Committee meetings of the board of directors.

  • Works with various inspectors (fire, elevator, building, boilers, etc..) and ensures the College complies with all safety and building code laws.

  • Ensures that all emergency and safety systems are regularly tested, maintained and fully operational.

  • Monitors the status of department work orders and ensures staff are addressing the work orders in a timely manner, efficiently, safely and correctly.

  • Obtains estimates for projects that may need to be outsourced.

  • Works effectively with all areas of the campus community.

  • Must be on call 24 hours a day.

  • Other duties as assigned by the vice president for administration and finance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least five years related work experience with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction, engineering, plant operation maintenance and management.

  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines for construction, system function and safety.

  • Knowledge of EPA guidelines and OSHA regulations.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time.

  • Customer service oriented.

  • Plus to have building automation systems experience.
