PART-TIME INSTRUCTOR | Visual Communication and Graphic Design

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for a part-time adjunct instructor, visual communication and graphic design for fall 2020.

This position will teach a full range of courses in visual communications and design for print, web and interactive media. The instructor will teach WEB classes and some print design classes; prepare and deliver learning activities in order to achieve course outcomes; evaluate and grade students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations; maintain and submit students attendance records, grades and other required documentation by specified deadlines; be available to students; and attend periodic meetings with full-time instructor or dean relative to teaching duties, training and development

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching in a liberal arts college environment and be effective classroom facilitators who enjoy teaching in a culturally diverse, student-centered environment. To be considered for the adjunct faculty position, the candidate should hold a minimum of an MA in graphic design, be able to teach visual communication and graph design courses (web/print) and be proficient in industry standard design software. Teaching experience and a minimum of 2 years recent relevant professional work in a graphic design related field preferred. The candidate should have advanced communication (verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation) and organizational skills, as well as sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.  Professional graphic design portfolio with web and print design is also recommended. Adjunct faculty members will be expected to (1) use our course management system and any textbook-specific systems; (2) hold regular office hours; and (3) participate in one pre-semester meeting each semester. Teaching is assigned on an as-needed, semester-by-semester basis. Classes may be offered day, evening or weekend. Please indicate your availability when applying for this position.
