Residence Director - Coordinator of Student Conduct and Community Standards (Part Time)

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF RESIDENCE LIFE & HOUSING STATUS: PART-TIME, 12-MONTH

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the part-time position of residence director - coordinator of student conduct.The resident director (RD) is a part-time live-in position that reports directly to the director of residence life & housing and indirectly to the dean of students/Title IX Coordinator. As a member of the Student Affairs staff, the RD is responsible for the general welfare of all students by achieving program excellence and innovation, strengthening campus culture and optimizing resources. The RD staff are expected to positively influence, contribute to, and improve the quality of life of the student population through programming, enforcing college policies and procedures, and forming personal relationships with each student in their residential community. This is a live-in position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Residence Director Responsibilities:  

  • Manages a residential living community ranging from 120-250 residents, varying from residence hall living to apartment living.

  • Supervises and assess 3-5 paraprofessional resident assistant (RA) staff members.

  • Participates in 24 hour on-call responsibilities along with fellow RDs (including break periods).

  • Facilitate weekly RA staff meetings and bi-weekly RA 1:1 meetings, submit RA 1:1 reports.

  • Attends weekly staff meetings and weekly one-on-ones with the director. Submit weekly and on-call reports to the director.

  • Serves as the liaison between the residential students and the assistant director of student life & housing. 

  • Assists in the training, selection, and evaluation of RA staff.

  • Facilitates resident check-in and check-out process.

  • Assists in supervision of the summer RA staff.

  • Assists with the check-in and check-out process of summer residents and outside groups/summer campus that are using the residential facilities. 

  • Supervises summer student worker staff and lead these individuals in the completion of special projects, including but not limited to assessment of rooms and common spaces in the residence halls and apartments, replacement and installation of apartment amenities, and moving furniture. 

  • Oversees daily on-call duty logs and time off requests. 

  • Provides crisis intervention when needed and make appropriate referrals.

  • Intercedes regarding policy violations and make appropriate referrals.

  • Provides sensitive, responsive, and well-informed guidance to residents regarding individual and collective concerns.

  • Serves as a conduct case coordinator and facilitate roommate mediations as needed.

  • Is visible and accessible as a resource to residents within your community.

  • Represents the Student Experience Suite at College functions and events.

  • Other duties as assigned by the assistant director(s) of student life, director of student life & new student orientation and/or executive director of student affairs & title IX coordinator.  

Coordinator of Student Conduct Responsibilities: 

  • Maintains 15-20 office hours per week within the Student Experience Suite.

  • Assists assistant director of student life & housing with the planning of RA training (fall and winter). 

  • Updates and maintain billing spreadsheet 

  • Oversees residential incident reports and follow up meetings.

  • Serves as the communications point person for all judicial hearings, correspondence and incidents.

  • Assists in data collection and analysis for institutional, state and federal record keeping, i.e. Clery Act Compliance.

  • Hosts judicial conduct meetings and implement judicial sanctions for students.

  • Conducts research on best practices and make suggestions for changes to student conduct processes.

  • Assist the director with the selection of Judicial Board members and serve as point of conduct.

  • Co-coordinate and oversee student conduct hearing boards, training and other relevant campus entities.

  • Enters and maintains judicial sanctions in Jenzabar EX system.

  • Manages Student Conduct email account.

  • Maintain RA programming database to ensure that requirements are met.

  • Facilitates the Six Week Programming & Jump Start Storm Challenges and plan recognition

  • Event.

  • Tracks RA bulletin board changes and themes.

  • Other duties as assigned by the assistant director(s) of student life, director of student life & new student orientation and/or executive director of student affairs & title IX coordinator.      

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (currently enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program preferred)

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

  • Strong communication, computer and organizational skills; solution oriented.

  • Conflict mediation knowledge.

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate and actively participate in developmental student programming.

  • Ability to work within a residence life team.

  • Able to work with a diverse student population.

  • Sound administrative and supervisory skills.

  • Sense of humor.

  • Due to the nature of the position, flexibility to at times work unpredictable work weeks, including nights and weekends, and some weeks requiring more than the usual 15-20hrs.
