School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

The School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences provides the foundation of a liberal arts education that prepares students to be flexible, open-minded, visionary and prepared to engage in the world. The mission of Lake Erie College is to prepare students to meet career and life challenges as educated and responsible citizens of local, national and international communities. Therefore, we offer our students a course of study that provides them with education beyond the particular requirements of vocational or professional training. In accordance with its long tradition of liberal arts education, the College encourages intellectual openness, curiosity and a critical examination of societal and personal values and beliefs.

The disciplines housed in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences are essential to both individual and societal growth and are sources of emotional, moral and intellectual beauty in our world. They allow us to explore, explain and understand human behavior, to develop moral insight and understanding, to engage in the power of creativity and develop and provide outlet for our skills in all modes of communication. Majoring in any one of these disciplines, in concert with the liberal core education requirements, will foster the skills, attitudes and abilities necessary for personal and professional success.
