Student Spotlight: Jonathon Carr '22 | Major: Sport Management

“Speak to as many people as possible. It’s a cliché, but get to know your classmates, team members, and everyone else in the campus community. They can help you further down the line. You can be the most clever person in the world, but if you don’t have communication skills, it’s going to be a struggle.”

Jonathon came to the United States from Sunderland, England to play soccer and major in Biology. Through his time in college, he realized that he wanted to stick with what he loved all his life: soccer. He came to LEC and switched to the Sport Management major and joined the up and coming soccer team. As an international student, he speaks very highly of the opportunities to meet people in college from all walks of life. Thanks to the diversity of the soccer team, he’s made friends from Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and of course, the United States. In class discussions, he enjoys getting to bounce ideas off of people with different perspectives. By getting to know students and teammates from other countries and cultures you learn much differently than by remaining in the same country. By becoming independent in college, his immersion into campus life has been a wonderful way to learn. Attending Lake Erie College is the best decision he’s ever made.
