Lake Erie College is proud to announce that Mr. Jean Makesh, Founder & CEO of The Lantern Group, will be the Commencement speaker on Saturday, May 6 at 11 AM. Mr. Makesh will offer an address titled, “Pushing your passion past human imagination: an Occupational Therapist love story.”

Jean Makesh is the Founder & CEO of The Lantern Group. His fascination with and passion for the aging was the impetus to design and create a therapeutic care program that is one of a kind in the U.S. and in the world. He has also designed state-of-the-art, award-winning cognitive care assisted living communities in Ohio. Recognitions received include Entrepreneur of the Year, the Model Practice Award, and Next Avenue’s Top 50 Influencers on Aging in 2016. Next Avenue is a digital platform of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) aimed at baby boomers.

Mr. Makesh holds an MBA degree from Lake Erie College, Class of 2000, and received the College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2020.

Mr. Makesh’s personal mission is to support, educate and equip the elderly, their caregivers, family members and healthcare professionals with knowledge and resources about Alzheimer’s disease, its prevention and treatment. His corporate mission is to apply experience to impact policies and practices in the areas of elder care, good and efficient business practices, and humankind. His goal is to continue to design and construct state of the art communities and therapeutic care models in the U.S. and other areas of the world.

Mr. Makesh designed and developed a patented retro-virtual time capsule to nurture and facilitate memory and to promote functional independence. This care delivery model is the only care program in the world that is therapeutic in nature. The care program utilizes the individual’s environment, learning and activities to activate repressed memories and stimulate newer learning.
