CourseCritical Thinking as a Habit of Mind
This course asks students to regard critical thinking not only as a set of skills that can be honed, but also as a disposition or mental habit that can be increasingly internalized with practice. Tough the specific topic of the course will be determind by the instructor, students can expect to practice asking meaningful questions, originating answers, evaluating and synthesizing evidence and interrogating their own underlying assumptions — all with the aim of developing their personal aptitudes for curiosity, engagement, persistence, open-mindedness and metacognition.
Science and Society
This course will explore various topics relevant to our understanding and application of science in our daily lives. Specific topics will be chosen each semester to ensure relevant content. Students will develop an understanding of the scientific method, its application, and misconceptions related to the topics chosen. Students should verify with the Honors Program Director if taking this class for a second time to ensure that it will satisfy progress within the Honors Program. Repeatable.
