Lake Erie College Senior Caleb Kynard Publishes First Book

Lake Erie College rising senior and entrepreneurship major Caleb Kynard ’22 recently published his first children’s book, Pluto’s Big Adventure. The picture book is a story about overcoming hardships and recognizing that there’s no one else you need to be but yourself. Pluto’s Big Adventure is now available for purchase on Amazon.

Kynard was inspired by his younger sister to write the book, which is dedicated to her. She helps him stay in touch with his inner child. With this book, Kynard also wants to help people, particularly to help kids realize their worth.

“I feel that my purpose is to help people in whatever way I can,” Kynard said. “I figured if my words could help a child somewhere in the world then it’s worth it to spend my time creating something to bring them value.”

Through the writing and publishing process, Kynard found that there were plenty of skills he learned at LEC to apply to his work such as marketing as he gets the word out about his book. The most important thing he feels he has learned from his time at LEC is the “just do it” mindset he has adopted throughout his projects.

“People like Professor Apicella and Dr. Spiesman, just to name a few, have shown me that it’s okay to just do whatever I feel called to do,” Kynard explained.

Kynard is an up and coming author and entrepreneur from Toledo, Ohio. He recently secured an internship as Program Manager with the Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC). He plans to write more books, including more picture books for younger audiences and graphic novels for older readers. In the meantime, he’s learning not to rush the process and have fun each step of the way.
