Lake Erie College Introduces New HVACR Minor to Provide Hands-On Technical Training and High-Demand Industry Certifications
Lake Erie College has officially launched a new minor in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR). Designed to deliver practical technical expertise, this new program provides students with hands-on, experiential learning in one of the region’s fastest-growing industries.
The HVACR minor offers students across various fields—particularly those in business and management majors—a unique competitive edge. By mastering the core technical skills and operational principles used in trade and manufacturing industries, graduates will develop a deep understanding of the operations and needs of companies from which they will seek employment upon graduation, making them immediately valuable to employers.
"Our goal is to continually adapt our curriculum to meet the evolving needs of our students and the regional workforce," said Lake Erie College HVACR instructor Rob Walter. "By equipping students with practical trade skills, we are empowering them to enter the workforce with strong technical capabilities and a distinct operational advantage."
A cornerstone of the new minor is the opportunity for students to earn industry-recognized credentials embedded directly in the coursework. Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to earn the following certifications:
EPA 608 Certification
A2L Refrigerant Handling Certification
OSHA 10-Hour Certification for Construction
HVAC Excellence "Ready to Work" Certifications (Electrical, Gas Heat, Electric Heat, Air Conditioning, and Basic Refrigeration Charging)
