Lake Erie College Welcomes Largest Incoming Class in Decades
Surge Driven by Regional Tuition Initiatives and Expanding Academic Programs
Lake Erie College is proud to announce a historic surge in enrollment for the upcoming academic year, marking its largest incoming class in decades.
Overall incoming student enrollment rose by 12.46% compared to last year, powered by a remarkable 24.48% jump in the freshman class alone. Driven by this influx of new students, the College’s total full-time undergraduate population has grown by 15.75% year-over-year.
A key contributor to this growth is the newly launched Tri-County and Cuyahoga Connect programs. Designed to make high-quality higher education accessible and affordable, the initiative offers incoming students from Lake, Ashtabula, Geauga, and Cuyahoga counties a locked-in tuition rate of $7,500 per semester for four years.
"Our goal with these initiatives was simple: to ensure that bright, hard-working students in our surrounding communities have a direct, affordable path to a degree," said Ashley Mayse, Vice President for Enrollment. "Seeing such an extraordinary response proves how deeply needed and impactful these local partnerships are."
Beyond financial accessibility, Lake Erie College continues to expand its academic offerings across signature disciplines, health sciences, and graduate leadership pathways:
Undergraduate Exercise Science Major: Recently approved by the Higher Learning Commission, this versatile program combines a robust core curriculum with specialized concentrations in Exercise Physiology, Strength and Conditioning, and Pre-Allied Health. It prepares graduates for direct entry into wellness careers or advanced graduate studies in physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic medicine, and athletic training.
Expanded Health Sciences & Physician Assistant Studies: The new Exercise Science major complements the College's flagship Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) and pre-professional health tracks, expanding career pathways across Northeast Ohio's healthcare sector.
Innovations in the School of Business: Undergraduate business programs are driving career-ready outcomes in emerging fields—including Cybersecurity, Sport Management, Finance, and Marketing—alongside hands-on community initiatives such as the LEC Tax Clinic and student market research groups.
Master of Educational Leadership (MEL) – Athletic Administration: This new concentration prepares future leaders to navigate and excel in the management of school-based athletics and educational organizations.
Master of Reading Science: Renamed from the Mastery of Literacy program, this updated degree reflects full alignment with the Science of Reading framework and Ohio’s updated educator preparation expectations.
Signature Programs and STEMM: Growth continues across nationally recognized areas, including Equine Studies, as well as hands-on learning within the School of Science, Animal Studies, and Human Services.
Accelerated Graduate Pathways: LEC’s 4+1 accelerated master's degree options provide students with streamlined routes to advance their careers in business, healthcare administration, and education.
