Public Relations and Marketing
Who We Are:
The Lake Erie College Public Relations and Marketing Department works daily with campus constituents to publicize all aspects of the College through media outlets, social media platforms and the website. The department works closely with the admissions team in their efforts to attract prospective students and to promote the College as a whole. The team ensures that the College’s branding and visual identity are consistent across all marketing collateral.
Michelle Kolk manages and implements all communication services for the College. As the department’s director, Kolk administers all media and press relations, coordinates responses for requests for information, and contributes to all major internal and external publications. She writes press releases and news announcements and oversees the College's social media presence, newsletters, magazine and website. Additionally, she leads the College’s advertising efforts and aids with creative design for all marketing collateral, working closely with the Office of Admissions to develop marketing strategies to drive enrollment.Kolk holds a Master of Arts degree in communications management and public relations from John Carroll University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies and sociology from The College of Wooster.

Matthew Krotzer serves as the web designer-developer for the College. In this role, he manages the website’s content management system and administers all website edits and updates as needed. Krotzer monitors analytics, maintains web forms, manages the campus calendar and works with constituents across campus to ensure a comprehensive web presence.
Leah Rawson serves in support of all aspects of public relations, marketing and communications at Lake Erie College. As a writer and editor, she leads development and curation for the biannual Lake Erie Magazine. In this endeavor, she conducts historical research within the College’s archives, also maintaining the College’s Wikipedia and history pages.
Leah is responsible for leading the College’s newsletters “The View from PR” and “Semester at a Glance.” She writes press releases, publications, news announcements, and spotlights, among other projects.
She assists with the development of targeted communications campaigns and writing of content for the College’s website and social media platforms. Leah copyedits and writes text in publications for departments across campus, for an array of needs, such as fundraising, academic program promotion, alumni communications and admissions.
Leah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and minors in communication and psychology from Lake Erie College, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2017. She formerly worked as a writing assistant in the Academic Learning Center’s Writing Center.
Digital Media and Marketing Specialist
Elizabeth Wheeler serves as the digital media and marketing specialist in the Office of Public Relations and Marketing. Wheeler joined the office in the fall of 2016 and is responsible for growing the College’s digital media presence. Experienced in filmmaking and video editing, she creates video for use on the website, social media and elsewhere. Wheeler also aids with creative design and photography for a variety of projects.
In addition to her work at the College, Wheeler has worked as a student worker for the University of Mount Union Office of Marketing and as a designer for Thompson United Methodist Church and Mentor United Methodist Church.
Wheeler is a 2016 University of Mount Union graduate and holds a bachelor of arts degree with a major in interactive media and a minor in art.

Jamie Castle serves as the public relations and marketing assistant to the Office of Public Relations and Marketing. Castle joined the team as a student worker in her junior year at the College and became responsible for providing general support to the office. Well-versed in Adobe Creative Suite, Castle creates and designs much of the College's advertising collateral including posters, pamphlets and flyers. She is also responsible for many of the office's administrative duties.
In addition to her work at the College, Castle works as a freelance photographer and is also a certified nail technician at a local salon in Eastlake.
Castle is a 2014 Lake Erie College graduate and holds a bachelor of arts degree with a major in integrated media, digital art and technology (IMDAT). She is pursuing her master's degree in business administration from Lake Erie College.
