Lake Erie College presents the Dawn Powell and Kate Carter awards! The Dawn Powell Prize for Creative Writing in Fiction and Poetry and the Kate Carter Awards - one for Excellence in First Year Writing and another for Excellence in Writing in the Core. About Dawn Powell
The award’s namesake, author Dawn Powell, attended Lake Erie College from 1914 to 1918 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During her time at LEC, Powell edited and wrote for the College’s literary publication and was active in theater. By the time of her death in 1965, she had written 16 novels, nine plays, and numerous short stories.
About Kate Carter
Kate Carter was an award-winning poet and recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Fellowship in Poetry. She received her MA in Creative Writing from Antioch University McGregor and, prior to her arrival at Lake Erie, taught in the Psychology department at Antioch University New England and the English and Women’s Studies departments at New Mexico State University. She is the author of two chapbooks of poetry, Covenant and Lodestar: Night Sky.
