Lake Erie College Welcomes Douglas Rohde, MS,| as Professor of Practice

Lake Erie College is honored to announce the appointment of Douglas Rohde, MS, as Professor of Practice in the School of STREAMS (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Animal, and Medical Sciences). With more than four decades of experience in clinical chemistry and forensic toxicology, Rohde brings exceptional expertise and a strong record of professional leadership to the College.

Rohde’s distinguished career includes positions with several leading institutions in the region. He served as Supervisor in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute’s Clinical Biochemistry Department at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and later as Supervisor of Chemistry and Toxicology at the Lake County Crime Laboratory. He has also worked as a toxicology consultant for both the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Canton-Stark County Crime Laboratory.

A committed educator and scientist, Rohde holds an Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology from Villa Maria College (1983), a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Gannon University (1986), and a Master of Science in Clinical Chemistry from Cleveland State University (1992).

His professional affiliations and honors reflect a lifelong dedication to excellence in forensic and clinical science. Rohde is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Science, a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, and a past president of the Midwest Association for Toxicology and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring. He also maintains membership in the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and holds board certifications from the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American Board of Criminalistics – Emeritus.

Beyond his laboratory leadership, Rohde has contributed nationally to the advancement of forensic standards and public safety. He has served on the National Safety Council Alcohol, Drugs, and Impairment Division, the Academy Standards Board Toxicology Consensus Body, and as a Forensic Technical Assessor for the American National Standards Institute National Accreditation Board. In 2004, he was appointed to the Ohio Governor’s Task Force on Impaired Driving Scientific Advisory Committee, where he helped shape state policies on impaired driving.

As a Professor of Practice, Doug will also serve as a career mentor for our Choose Ohio First STEMM Scholars. In this role, he will hold office hours, participate in program events, and guide students in exploring the many career paths available to those with STEM degrees. His mentorship will support the program’s mission of helping students develop a strong understanding of how their academic training can be applied to meet the evolving needs of Ohio’s workforce.
